Pre-teens and teenagers can explore their favorite Broadway musicals this summer,
thanks to the new PBA Children’s Theatre virtual masterclass Broadway Then and Now.
Master Teaching Artist Tracy McCoy is the leader of the online masterclass, during which young performers will delve into different musical theatre styles, shows and choreography. The first week focuses on the Golden Era of Broadway, and the second week focuses on the post-2000 era.
The masterclass is open to students completing grades 5-12. The online format allows McCoy to create a very personal experience for students, helping them to grow and take on specific challenges, she said. The course runs 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, July 13-17 and July 20-24. The cost is $400 for the two-week class. Register and pay by June 26 to receive the early bird discount of $350. Registration closes July 10.
The virtual opportunities give young people a chance to connect with one another – despite social distancing – as they learn about theatre. Read what participants had to say about virtual children’s theatre workshops offered this spring here.
