Why Earn a Degree in English and Secondary Education at PBA?

Learn the historical and philosophical foundations of education, as well as important topics such as instructional tools, the Florida Accomplished Practices, Sunshine State Standards and the role of the teacher. You will be educated by the dynamic faculty of Florida’s top Christian college.

The mission of the dual major in English and Secondary Education is to prepare highly competent, pre-service English Secondary Education teachers for diverse classrooms through academic and clinical experiences.

This major does not result in professional teacher certification. To be eligible for temporary certification, a student must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited or approved institution and meet the guidelines required by the Florida Department of Education.

Students may seek Florida certification after the following steps are completed:

  1. Apply to the state for certification: http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/ The state will send you a Statement of Eligibility.
  2. Schedule a Subject Area Exam if indicated on your Statement of Eligibility: Florida Teacher Certification Exams: http://www.fl.nesinc.com/
  3. Complete additional requirements listed on your Statement of Eligibility.
