Department of Public Safety - Patrol Officer

 

TYPE:   Full-time and Part-time (Day, Evening, and Overnight Shifts)
LOCATION: West Palm Beach Campus

SUMMARY:  Responsible for the safety and security of the university including its students, faculty, staff and administration as well as its physical assets during his/her assigned shift.

EDUCATION:  High school diploma or General Education degree (GED); and 6-12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Law Enforcement/Security training or experience preferred. Possession of a valid Class E Driver’s License is required. A valid State of Florida Security “C/D” license is preferred but not required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with a team and be a self-starter and self-motivated.  
  
  
• Proficient computer skills are preferred.   
  
  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  
  
• Must be comfortable speaking one-on-one with a wide variety of constituents of the university, and at times, city/county law enforcement.  
  
  
• Previous knowledge of completing incident reports and conducting follow-up/investigations is beneficial. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Pro-active patrol of all campus property, detecting violations of federal, state and local laws and taking appropriate action in accordance with department policies and procedures.  

• Respond to calls for assistance from students, faculty, administration, law enforcement and emergency services personnel.  
  
  
• Position is an essential employee and may require shift, weekend, holiday, and/or overtime work. 
  
  
• Contributes to and provides some oversight for Risk Management and Patrol Citation Functions. 
  
  
• Other special duties as assigned
