Disability Services Specialist - Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources
TYPE: Full-time, Exempt
LOCATION: West Palm Beach Campus
SUMMARY: Oversees the management of disability services accommodations through the application
and interpretation of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; communicates
with faculty and staff regarding policies and guidelines as it relates to disability
services; provides oversight of the Academic Testing Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages with students and parents to review accommodation requests.
- Determines and grants reasonable accommodations.
- Monitors, adjusts, and evaluates the accommodation process to ensure compliance with
the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Oversees the Testing Center Coordinator and Academic Testing Center operations.
- Communicates effectively with faculty members regarding accommodations.
- Prepares reports as requested including, but not limited to weekly, monthly, semester,
and yearly qualitative and quantitative reports.
- Supports relationships and collaborates with campus partners (Academic Affairs, Residence
Life and Housing, Dining, Auxiliary Services, Facilities, ITS, and Human Resources)
on accommodation requests/approvals to provide an accessible University experience.
- Communicates registered dietary needs to Sailfish Dining.
- Prepares and conducts informational presentations for faculty, staff, and student
leaders about how to effectively serve students with disabilities.
- Maintains student profile and records in Medicat.
- Updates the Disability Services Handbook.
- Ensures the information on the Accessibility Services pages on myPBA and pba.edu is
up to date and accurate.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of government regulations that pertain to students including FERPA,
ADA, ADAA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Ability to interpret confidential reports and other documentation to determine eligibility
for accommodations and specific services and implement strategies when consultation
or further information is required.
- Manifests sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to work strategically
by prioritizing competing demands.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to the concerns and needs of a diverse student population.
- Shows a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and align across
a wide variety of people.
- Gives attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely
important as well as dependability.
- Handles information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional
manner
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Baccalaureate degree required; Master’s degree p-referred. 2+ years of ADA and Section
504 experience. Experience with diverse student populations strongly preferred.
