To be a dance major at PBA, you'll need to apply for admission to PBA and for acceptance as a dance major. This second acceptance requires an audition. Some students audition before applying to PBA; while this is permissible to find out if you are qualified to be a dance major, it is not advisable. You should simultaneously apply for University admission and acceptance as a dance major.
If you live too far from campus or an audition site where a PBA dance faculty member is holding auditions, you may submit a videotape for provisional consideration, to be followed up with a live audition and interview when you do come to campus.
Dance Auditions are still being scheduled. As Spring 2019 Audition Day dates have passed, if you still wish to audition for consideration for entrance in Fall 2019 please click on the Dance Audition Form button below and enter your requested date(s) 1, 2 and 3 in the comment section and we will contact you to set up that individual audition as soon as possible.
If you want to be a dance major, you will need to file an application with the School of Music and Fine Arts in order to set up an audition. You will need to submit three documents:
This application process is separate from applying for University admission.
You will need to complete a live audition and interview with the dance faculty prior
to your semester of initial enrollment. If you live too far from an audition site
for a live audition to be practical, a videotape may be submitted for provisional
consideration, to be followed up by a live audition and interview when you arrive
Application materials should be received and auditions completed at least six weeks before the beginning of your first term as a dance major in order to ensure a place in required courses. Approval for study in the program is based on several factors, including an audition, interview, written essay and review of previous work.
You must fill out the above online form to schedule an audition; please note you will have to create a user account if you don't already have one.
You'll need to set up a live audition and interview with the dance faculty prior to your semester of initial enrollment. Your audition will be scheduled so that you can participate and be observed in an intermediate ballet or modern class. At the conclusion of the class, you will present a prepared two-minute composition (with or without music).
Your audition will be followed by an interview with a member of the dance faculty and a discussion of the essay you submitted with your dance application materials. Your acceptance as a dance major is based on the audition, the interview, the written essay and a review of your previous work.
