Disaster preparedness is key, especially in South Florida where scenarios like weather and heavy traffic can majorly impact communities.

On December 2, Palm Beach Atlantic University’s (PBA) School of Nursing held a special Disaster Training Simulation with local emergency responders. While PBA has held other simulations in the past, it was the first time they collaborated with the City of West Palm Beach Police, Fire, and EMS departments.

Together, students rapidly assessed the scene, performed triage using standardized SALT principles, coordinated with emergency responders, and demonstrated teamwork and leadership under pressure.

As of December 13, 2025, the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Department has reported 23,775 vehicle crashes in Palm Beach County this year. The special training event underscores the university’s commitment to giving students hands-on learning opportunities—empowering them to apply academic concepts to real-world applications that prepare them to be servant leaders in the workforce.
