Men’s Cross Country Sets Program Bests at NCAA Regionals

The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s cross-country team, consisting of 18 individuals, traveled to Alabama for the NCAA South Region meet on Saturday, November 4, ending their fruitful season on a high note.

The Sailfish recorded the best men’s cross-country team finish in program history, earning 10th place finish out of 16 teams.  

Toinou Laigle recorded the program’s best individual finish at regionals, earning 25th place with a time of 31:22.40 and all-region honors.

Hayden Tankplaced 56th with a time of 32:39.6. He shared about the meet and is optimistic about the team’s improvement.  

“It was a great bonding experience,” he said. “We raced well and listened to the coach. It was a good season with a lot of growth.”  

Joe Basara finished 58th with a time of 32:51.20. Nicholas Colbert (33:35.2) earned 70th and Caleb Harms (33:48.1) rounded out PBA’s top five in 75th place. 

Harms spoke highly of head coach Wes Penberthy and was proud of the team’s effort.  

“Coach Wes did a great job of making sure we were where we needed to be in our training,” he shared. “I think we performed well as a team, and it took all of us running for each other to accomplish what we did.”  

Haile Buck placed 77th, recording a time of 33:52.6. Nathan Yates came in 81st with a time of 34:07.8.  

The NCAA South Region meet marked the end of the 2023 Sailfish Cross Country team season.  

PBA’s athletics department has seen a tremendous amount of growth in the past year. The 78-acre Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus provides facilities for training and hosting intercollegiate sports, giving athletes every opportunity for success. Sailfish athletes compete in 18 NCAA Division II and Sunshine State Conference varsity sports.
