From September 27 to 30, four Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) students served as event interns at the 2026 International Franchise Professionals Group (IFPG) Retreat at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida, gaining first-hand experience in the franchise industry.
The Titus Center for Franchising, opened the door for the students to work with professionals and learn more about the industry.
Over 700 franchise executives, consultants, franchisors, and suppliers from across the country were present at the retreat. The four students assisted the IFPG team with various logistic and practical tasks to make sure the four-day conference ran smoothly.
Building Relationships for the Future
For Kailyn Pinder, a junior business administration, this opportunity built on her previous internship experience, helped her reconnect with professionals she previously met and expanded her professional network.
“It was really cool getting to recognize people and have them recognize me,” Pinder expressed. “The franchising community is kind of a niche. Everyone is so kind, willing to answer questions, and helping you learn.”
This internship also broadened Pinder’s understanding of the industry.
“Coming to PBA, I didn’t really know anything about franchising other than fast food,” Pinder confided. “Seeing the variety of businesses, from cleaning services to dog walking companies, and restaurants, it showed me there are so many more opportunities than I originally thought.”
A Clearer Picture
Another student who interned at the retreat, Cole Launsby, a junior studying Entrepreneurship and Franchising, said his favorite part of the event was watching the pitching sessions. Franchise brands were given five minutes to pitch their brands to consultants.
Launsby encouraged future students to take advantage of similar opportunities.
“I would just say, be open,” he said. “Talk to people, make connections, and learn how they got to where they are. Those relationships can benefit you in the future.”
The Heart Behind the Matter
The Titus Center for Franchising is one of the eight Centers of Excellence at PBA. It works with over 70 franchise industry advisory members to provide students with internships, mentorships, and professional experiences.
“One of the greatest benefits we can provide our students is meaningful industry exposure before they graduate,” said Martha Tomas Flynn, director of the Titus Center for Franchising and assistant professor of franchising. “Through opportunities like the IFPG Retreat, our students aren’t just observing—they’re working alongside franchise executives, building professional relationships, and gaining confidence in a dynamic business environment.”
