Biography

Dr. Sam Broomell has served as Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Instrumental Music at Palm Beach Atlantic University since 2024. He previously served as Director of the Johns Hopkins University Wind Ensemble and Assistant Conductor of the Peabody Conservatory Wind Ensemble.
Dr. Broomell’s research has been selected for presentation at conferences across the United States, including the College Band Directors National Association Conference and the Florida State Music Education Association Conference. His primary scholarly work included the creation of a conductor’s guide to Olivier Messiaen’s “Et Exspecto Resurrectionem Mortuorum.” Other research interests include conductor health and wellness, philosophical approaches to music theory, and the construction of religious identity in Welsh choral music.
A sought-after conductor and adjudicator, Dr. Broomell has worked with ensembles across the United States, including the United States Army Field Band, The Soldiers’ Chorus, The Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra, The Delaware Winds, The Newfound Chamber Winds, The Allegretto Orchestra of Lancaster, The Pops Orchestra of the Palm Beaches, The Rockville Concert Band, The Frankin & Marshall College Symphony Orchestra, The Frankin & Marshall College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and The Hunt Valley Wind Ensemble. He has had the privilege of conducting ensembles at the University of Texas at Austin, Temple University, the University of Montana, West Chester University, and Old Dominion University in masterclass settings.
Dr. Broomell was awarded the 2024 American Prize in Conducting. He has participated in conducting competitions internationally including the Adrian Gnam International Conducting Competition and the Tidewater Conducting Competition.
As a student of Dr. Harlan Parker, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the Peabody Institute. Dr. Broomell completed two master’s degrees in Conducting and Music Theory Pedagogy, also from the Peabody Institute. He received undergraduate degrees in music and business from Franklin & Marshall College, where he studied conducting with Dr. Brian Norcross.
With a desire to bring glory to the Lord through song, Dr. Broomell has served as worship director for churches in Florida, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He serves as Music Director at Lake Osborne Church in Lake Worth, where he and his wife, Amy, worship.
