What can be more uplifting than praising the Lord and learning about Him through song and rousing talks given by some of the most dynamic Christian leaders in the world?
PBA does exactly that over several days each semester for Christival, a long-standing PBA tradition of praise, worship and learning. Christival began in the 1980s, making it the longest-standing conference at PBA.
The 2015 Christival conference will look at how the gospel shapes every aspect of life - especially in how we think of hospitality, caring for orphans, and reaching the lost. It will combat the common notion that your spiritual and secular life can be kept apart.

Along with being a nationally recognized author and speaker, Dr. Merida is a seminary professor and church planter. He is the Associate Professor of Preaching at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and the founding pastor of Imago Dei Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Merida played college baseball at the University of the Cumberlands and holds three degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary: M.Div., Th.M., and Ph.D.
He is the co-author of Orphanology and author of Faithful Preaching and Ordinary: How to Turn the World Upside Down. Along with David Platt and Danny Akin, Merida serves as a general editor and as contributor for the commentary series Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary.
Why we invited him to preach: Merida went to college, in his own words, “to party and play baseball.” But God used a teammate and the campus Fellowship of Christian Athletes to show him his need for Christ. After becoming a Christian, Merida became the campus outreach leader. It was then he met Jim Shaddix, who mentored Merida and inspired him to devote his life to the expository preaching of the Bible.
Since that time, Merida has garnered influence in several areas. First, he was a leading national speaker for student events and camps. Later, he became a noted pastor and professor, first in and around New Orleans and later near Raleigh. Through his own personal story of he and his wife adopting five children, he has become influential on social justice issues like orphan care and human trafficking.
Jay Boykin and the Christ Fellowship Band: The band, under Jay’s leadership, has been a staple of blessing and encouragement to the PBA family. His heart for worship and love for the PBA community make it a very special time for worship.
“Christival is an opportunity for the entire PBA community to wholeheartedly engage God in worship and the Word, and it also sets the stage for PBA as a whole to say, ‘Come, Holy Spirit. Have your way,’”
-- Bernie Cueto, Ph.D., Campus Pastor, Palm Beach Atlantic University.
