Dr. Wainer has been interested in mass media his whole life. After getting his B.A. in theatre arts from Valdosta State University, he pursued graduate studies in communication with a concentration in cinema studies at Regent University. While teaching at Milligan College in Tennessee, Dr. Wainer created the communication department's film studies minor. While in Atlanta, Ga., he taught communication at Atlanta Christian College and film at Georgia State University.
The interplay and relationships between various media has been a focus of his study and research resulting his 2014 book, Soul of the Dark Knight: Batman as Mythic Figure in Comics and Film. He has presented his research at several conferences including the National Communication Association, Media Ecology Association and Popular Culture Association. He has written on faith and popular culture at Breakpoint.org and Christianity Today.
He is married to Judith and has one son, Benjamin.
