Dr. Miller comes to PBA after four years as a member of the English department faculty at the University of Alabama. His primary scholarly interests are in children’s literature, comparative literature, critical theory, and cultural studies. He has previously taught seminars on children’s literature, global literature, modernism and postmodernism, and Christianity and literature, in addition to Anglophone literature surveys and freshman composition. Dr. Miller’s eclectic published work includes critical studies of the dynamic of migration in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, the material politics of children’s book awards, and the system of universal ethics in the work of Dr. Seuss. He has presented critical work at a number of international and domestic conferences, and is a member of the Modern Language Association, the American Comparative Literature Association, and the Children’s Literature Association—for which he serves on the selection committees for the Judith Plotz Emerging Scholar Award and the Edited Book Award. In 2014 Dr. Miller was selected to take part in Cornell University’s School of Criticism and Theory, and in Fall 2018 he was selected to teach at the University of Roehampton through PBA’s London Program. He is PBA’s faculty coordinator for the Rhodes and Fulbright Scholarships, as well as the Director of PBA’s Prestigious National Scholarship Program. He also serves as the faculty advisor for PBA’s Sigma Tau Delta English honor society chapter, which won the Outstanding Chapter Award (out of over 800 chapters in the nation) at both the 2017 and 2019 Sigma Tau Delta International Conventions. In 2020, Miller was the recipient of Sigma Tau Delta’s Elaine W. Hughes Outstanding Advisor Award as the top chapter advisor in the nation.
