On May 15, 2026, Palm Beach Atlantic University’s (PBA) Writing Central received the Center Acknowledgment and Recognition Excellence (CARE) certification from the Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA).

Dedication to Excellence
The CARE certification is limited to writing centers that are committed to promoting literacy, learning, and writing. The certification is currently the only one directed at educational writing centers and establishes professional criteria for excellence. Other institutions that have received the CARE certification include Florida State University, Auburn University, and Nova Southeastern University. Achieving this certification highlights PBA’s Writing Central’s dedication to upholding quality standards in its coaches’ training and performance.
Building Others Up
PBA’s Writing Central is a resource available to all students to help advance their liberal arts studies. At any point in the semester, students can bring their writing projects to the center and receive one-on-one help from a writing coach. Writing coaches can help at every stage of the writing process by supporting students in brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, formatting, and citing.
These writing coaches are fellow students who have demonstrated exemplary academic writing in their own coursework. Many coaches are also members of the Frederick M. Supper Honors Program, in which the curriculum focuses heavily on enhancing a student’s writing abilities. As the director of Writing Central, Dr. Kimberly Bain, assistant professor of English in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, selects and works closely with writing coaches to ensure they are well-versed in the requirements of academic writing and equipped to support students.
The writing center’s aim goes far beyond helping students with their academics by embodying the moral teachings of Ephesians 4:29 through the use of words to “build others up according to their needs.” The writing coaches are focused on assisting students to use scholastic excellence to deepen their spiritual lives and bring honor to God. The goal is not only for students to excel academically in their writing but also to find a way to connect through the medium to the Author of the Universe.
“I am pleased to see the amazing work of Writing Central’s staff, both past and present, being acknowledged in this way,” Bain said.
