The Time Is Now Campaign is part of a strategic plan to assist Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) in achieving its vision to fund urgent needs including Phase III of the Rinker Athletic Campus, Endowed Scholarships and Academic Program Expansion/Enhancement. The campaign goal is $18 million to be raised in gifts and pledges from trustees, faculty/staff, alumni friends and foundations.
Why is the Rinker Campus the top priority?
Outdoor recreation space and facilities have been extremely limited on the PBA campus, yet intramural sports are the most participated in activities on campus. PBA’s intercollegiate athletic teams also have suffered because of the absence of home fields and tennis courts.
By creating a state-of-the art athletic campus that officially opened Sept. 4, 2014, PBA is transforming intramural and intercollegiate athletic experiences for our students. We will build traditions by offering fans a “home team and home field” opportunity. And, our student athletes will reach out into the neighborhood to extend hands to area families by hosting camps, clinics and other community activities.
The Rinker Athletic Campus has been a priority for the University since a groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2008. Many have given generously, and we have raised some $15 million dollars toward our $18 million goal. Yet with all we have accomplished, the time is indeed now to complete our fundraising campaign and ensure that students have the best possible access to PBA athletic and recreational facilities.
Why are academic program expansion and enhancement important to PBA?
New program development and enhancement are paramount to the University’s growth and success. As employment needs in our community and beyond evolve, so must the preparation of students to enter the job market. PBA has a history of keeping pace with community needs and student interests. Our curriculum uniquely focuses on faith, free enterprise and service, giving students a well-rounded approach to their career paths. In order to continue preparing students for productive lives, we must encourage our faculty and staff to continuously survey and collect data on existing programs and future needs, and proactively develop new programs and enhance curriculum to meet identified needs and desires.
Why are endowed scholarships important to PBA in this campaign?
Endowment is the gift which gives forever. The principle remains intact while the earned income is used to fund student scholarships. The University has more than 120 endowed scholarships, and PBA’s goal is to double that number. Each year, it is becoming increasingly more challenging to recruit new students due to the difficulty involved in offering financial aid packages that are competitive and persuasive. A donor can provide named scholarships at varying amounts with a minimum commitment of $10,000.
What is the pledge period for The Time Is Now Campaign?
A three-year pledge period is suggested, but the donor may select a convenient payment schedule.
What are the methods of giving?
In addition to cash pledges and estate gifts, other ways to participate include:
In December 2010, PBA announced the largest gift to support Sailfish athletics in program history with a $4 million gift from the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Foundation for construction of the new campus.
In recognition of the generosity of the foundation and Trustee John Rinker and his wife Sheila, the campus has been named in honor of Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker.
