University to Host Community Roundtable on Public Comment

The City of West Palm Beach will present a roundtable symposium on public comment at city meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Lassiter Student Center, 900 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach. The event is open to the public.

Since April 4, the issue of respectful public dialogue has become a concern of city residents, the mayor and city commissioners. In an effort to encourage respectful dialogue, the mayor and commissioners have been enforcing the city’s Civility Code during public commission meetings. Organizers hope the roundtable will help identify the balance between free speech versus speech that is viewed as hateful and non-productive.

Representatives from various community organizations as well as invited residents of the city will be in attendance. Also, PBA President William M.B. Fleming Jr. will serve as a panelist, and Dr. Craig Hanson, associate professor of philosophy, will serve as moderator.
