Employers Aggressively Recruit Interns from PBA

About 50 recruiters are expected to attend the Discovering Internships as Vocational Exploration (DIVE) Internship Expo in the Mahoney Gymnasium of the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation. Employers from finance, accounting, technology, legal, nonprofit and ministry fields are seeking students for a variety of positions.

Several employers are returning to the expo because they want more interns from PBA to replace the ones they hired for jobs, said Dr. Kim Ladd, director of career development. For example, Wellvites, a children’s vitamin company, met marketing major Laura Wills at a previous expo. They hired her as an intern and then for a part-time position.

Digital Resource, an internet marketing service in downtown West Palm Beach, aggressively recruits PBA talent at all of the University’s career fairs, Ladd said. Floyd Clark, a senior studying computer science, started an internship with Digital Resource’s web development team at the beginning of the semester.

A representative from TransPerfect, a translation, E-Discovery and language services company, recruits students who she meets at the expo and even in classes, Ladd said.

Ninety-three percent of employers are more likely to hire students who have completed internships, and 67 percent of students who complete internships are offered jobs, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
