The University invites alumni to celebrate homecoming Nov. 6-9 with a variety of activities across campus and in downtown West Palm Beach.
The 37th annual Great American Bug Race — PBA’s longest-standing tradition — kicks off the activities 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 in the Rinker Hall parking lot. Students, alumni and community members are invited to race roaches for a $1 entry fee and 50 cents per bug. Proceeds benefit the Science Club’s research projects and experiential learning activities. There is a cash award for the grand prize winner.
Alumni may experience PBA’s history with photos and memorabilia during tours of the archives in the Warren Library on Thursday and Friday. No registration is necessary; ask the attendants at the front desk for directions to the archives.
Festivities continue with an alumni celebration 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the Lake Pavilion, 101 South Flagler Drive, across from the Intracoastal Waterway in Downtown West Palm Beach. All alumni are invited. There will be an additional celebration and archive display for alumni who graduated in years ending in four or nine. Distinguished alumni will be recognized and awarded for their accomplishments. Click here to buy tickets.
A 5K walk/run is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus, 3401 Parker Ave. Check-in starts at 7 a.m.; the race begins at 8 a.m. Check back later for the sign-up link.
All Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy alumni are invited to play in a basketball game 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mahoney Gymnasium in the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation, 1100 S. Dixie Highway. The game is free to attend and participate. The school will host alumni in Gregory Hall afterward. Sign up here.
Festivities conclude with family-friendly Sailgating 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the Sailfish Volleyball game in the Rubin Arena. Alumni Relations and the Steering Committee will host Sailfish Jack’d, a strength competition involving a concrete bucket relay, tire flip, medicine ball shot-put and 15-passenger van pull. Heats will be divided between students and alumni, men and women.
Sailgating also includes yard game competitions, bounce houses, balloon artists and more fun for all ages. Food will be for sale.
