Describe your current job role
DVM Candidate at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2022 (1st year vet student)
What professional experience(s) did you have prior to your current job role?
During my time at PBA, I worked as a veterinary technician assistant at West Palm Animal Clinic. After graduating, I worked in the emergency room at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital until starting veterinary school.
What do you know now that you wish you had known about being a working professional?
I wish I had known the importance of communication and networking. Establishing relationships with other people in your field and related fields allows you to discover all of the opportunities that are out there. Additionally, the people you meet have a lot to teach you.
How did PBA prepare you for the world of work?
PBA greatly prepared me on how to approach difficult tasks. There were many challenges with assignments, tests, and research projects that I faced at PBA. PBA encouraged me to approach these difficulties with an open, determined, and positive mindset.
What advice would you give to current PBA students and/or young alumni who are about to start their first professional full-time job?
I cannot exactly speak on professional career advice, but I do have advice for students looking into graduate and professional school. Do not fear obstacles and challenges that come your way. Disregard things that seem like limitations. If you want to do something badly enough, you can do it. You just need to have a positive mindset and the discipline to make it happen.
Have you been mentored by anyone in your professional field since entering the workforce? If so, what impact has that had on you?
Not yet. I am still getting exposed to multiple veterinarians in various specialties.
