Hometown: Wellington, FL
I am a Kindergarten Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher at Elbridge Gale Elementary, a public school in Wellington, Florida. It's a part-time teaching position. I teach 19 students in the morning and then my students go to another teacher for Language Arts. Many afternoons and weekends I also work at Strong Boalt, a retail store on Palm Beach island.
Through PBA Field Experience classes and student teaching, I spent around 1,000 hours in elementary school classrooms observing and teaching. I also had two semesters student teaching every day in the classroom. In addition, I was a substitute teacher in Palm Beach County.
When working full time, it’s much more difficult to find time to continue healthy habits such as exercising, seeing friends and resting enough. Planning ahead and being intentional about your priorities helps you to be able to manage your time more effectively.
" Kindly ask questions if you are unsure, want advice or need helpful tips."
PBA prepared me for the world of work by helping me learn how to find a balance in life. In college I simultaneously had to work hard and succeed in my classes, while holding a job, volunteering in the schools, participating in extra-curricular activities and maintaining a social life. Even in the work world, it is important to find the balance in life.
Kindly ask questions if you are unsure, want advice or need helpful tips. Most people do not mind helping out and you can learn so much from others. More guidance: wrinkled clothes are not acceptable in the professional world. Read your email. Put in the extra effort because it is worth it.
I have been mentored by a few of the teachers at my school. I go talk to them at lunch, before school, or after school and ask them questions. They have helped me so much!
