Hometown: Gary, IN
I just accepted a position as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse at St. Mary’s Medical Center where I will be providing holistic, compassionate, care to an array of critically ill children.
Throughout school, I worked at Delray Medical Center as a Nurse Extern for two and a half years, performing nursing skills and caring for the adult and geriatric populations, as well as Urban Outfitters for three years where I worked as a sales associate boosting my communication skills.
I wish I learned how to set boundaries. Healthcare is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting, and at the end of a 12-hour day, you are beat. I am always the type of person to say “yes” to everyone, but sometimes you have to take care of yourself or people will start to take advantage of you.
" I wish I learned how to set boundaries."
Palm Beach Atlantic’s Nursing School, not only prepared me adequately with knowledge, but also provided some of the best clinical professors I could have asked for to guide me throughout school, in my practice, and life. Because PBA is a Christian college, I believe that to be an intricate part in my desire to treat my patients as a whole person; mentally, physically, spiritually, and culturally.
Do what you love, never settle, and make connections with people. God has a plan for everyone, and He will set you up for the greatest successes. For a long time, I loved working at Delray Medical Center, but as my time of becoming a nurse became imminent, I was getting worn out. I was afraid that as the New-Graduate nurse positions opened up across various facilities, I would have to settle for Delray. After months of waiting to hear back from pediatric hospitals however, I got my dream job at St. Mary’s PICU. As cliché as it sounds, patience is a virtue.
What I love about PBA, is that the professors really care about you succeeding not only academically, but in life. I have made many meaningful relationships with my nursing professors, that have instilled confidence, self-worth, and knowledge within me, through the best and ugliest times of nursing school.
