Senior men's tennis player Pietro de Silva's efforts on and off the court have earned him the 2018 ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and JUCO men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
In his junior year, de Silva led the men's tennis team with a 16-6 singles record and finished 6-2 in SSC play. De Silva won five straight singles matches in March 2018; he also posted a 17-8 record in doubles play with a 7-1 record in the SSC including a win over nationally ranked No. 9 duo from Embry-Riddle in the regular season finale.
De Silva's 2018 accolades include ITA Male Scholar-Athlete, All-SSC Men's First Team Doubles, All-SSC Men's Honorable Mention Singles and the Spring SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
