Faculty Details





Dr. Cori Thompson previously served as a health science instructor for Brevard Public Schools and a faculty member for the undergraduate athletic training program at Charleston Southern University. Prior to teaching, she served on the sport science staff for the United States Tennis Association, working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and head athletic trainer. Dr. Thompson has worked in a variety of sports medicine settings, providing medical support for Florida State University, the University of Central Florida, and Calvary Christian Academy, as well as the Olympic training center, physical therapy clinics, orthopedic physician’s offices, and local marathons/triathlons.

While she was a student at Florida State University, Dr. Thompson served as the graduate assistant athletic trainer for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams and the medical coordinator for the ACC Baseball Championship Tournament. She was also involved in developing strength and conditioning and injury prevention programs for the athletes under her care. Prior to that, Dr. Thompson was the senior athletic training student at the University of Central Florida, where she worked with the football team, softball team, and women’s soccer team.

Dr. Thompson recently completed her doctoral degree in health science; her dissertation focused on improving test scores on medical board exams in athletic training. Her research interests include injury prevention, improving patient outcomes, and athletic training education. Dr. Thompson also has a master’s degree in sports administration from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in health science studies with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Central Florida. She is a licensed and certified athletic trainer, certified strength and conditioning coach, and is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine Professionals as a performance Enhancement specialist.
