Dr. Lloyd Mims was appointed dean of the School  of Music and Fine Arts in July 2000 and served in that capacity until July 2018; he currently is Dean Emeritus and Professor of Music.  Prior to his service at PBA, he served as professor and dean of the School of Church Music and Worship at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.  In addition to his academic degrees he did additional studies in voice and literature at The Juilliard School and the America-Italy Society; he was also a fellow with the Bach Aria Institute in Stony Brook, N.Y., and the American Symphony Orchestra League Conducting Workshop in Houston.  His professional performances include roles with Kentucky Opera, Mobile Opera, The Louisville Orchestra, The Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches, the Choral  Society of the Palm Beaches and the Asuncion National Philharmonic in Paraguay.  He coordinates and teaches annually on the Voice Faculty of the Summer Session of Fondation Bell’Arte at the Maurice Ravel Conservatory in Paris, France.  For twenty years he was the conductor of the Seminary Orchestra in Louisville, Kentucky and has conducted a wide range of opera and symphonic works; he presently is the conductor of the PBA Symphony.  Dr. Mims is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing; he served a four-year term as Regional Governor of the Southeast Region (AL, FL, GA) and nearly ten years as National Secretary-Treasurer.  He is also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lambda, the Conductors Guild, and the National Opera Association.  In 2017 he was named to the membership of Marquis Who’s Who in the World.  An ordained minister, he has served as minister of music for a number of churches in Kentucky, Florida and Mississippi.  Dr. Mims teaches voice and church music courses at PBA.  He and his wife, Marilyn, a former Metropolitan Opera soprano and now a voice teacher at PBA, are participants in the music program of Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach.
