Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is a traditional woodwind, brass, and percussion concert band consisting of PBA music majors as well as non-music majors. This ensemble performs the major literature composed in the great tradition of concert bands around the world, including symphonic and chamber repertoire written and arranged for various combinations of instruments.

The music performed and studied by the Symphonic Band highlights the talents of the students, and illustrates how the band program in the School of Music interfaces with musical organizations both on our campus and beyond. This group seeks to instill in each student the concept of “the pursuit of excellence” in both their musical development and their service to their community.

Much attention and focus is devoted to expanding and broadening the proficiency, knowledge, and experience of each student.  The band performs numerous times during the year and is involved in a number of events, from “Workship” projects to performance tours. The Symphonic Band is directed by Dennis Hayslett, director of instrumental studies at PBA.
