The 2022 Young Artists Competition
Welcome to the Palm Beach Atlantic University 2022 Young Artist Competition! We support
the preservation of the arts by providing young pianists with opportunities to win
scholarships, performance prizes, participate in masterclasses and gain valuable experience.
This year's competition is held on February 25-26, 2022. Applications are due February 11, 2022. Please see below for rules, prizes and other information.

- February 25, 2022: 7:30 PM, Competition Guest Artist Recital, featuring pianist Gila Goldstein
- February 26, 2022: 9:00am -3:30pm Competition, 4:00pm Masterclass, & 7:00pm Winners' Recital
Guest Artist and Adjudicators
Eligibility
- Eligible pianists must be enrolled in their junior or senior year of high school at
the time of the competition. Proof of eligibility must be submitted with the application.
Rules
- The 2022 PBA Young Artist Competition will be open to selected finalists from the
prescreening round.
- Applicants must submit a prescreening video comprising two contrasting compositions
which showcase the applicants’ abilities.
- The application deadline is 11:59 PM, February 11, 2022.
Announcements following shortly after the deadline.
- Final Round repertoire:
- A prelude and fugue by Bach or two contrasting movements from a suite by Bach.
- A fast movement from a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven (no repeats).
- A substantial work from the Romantic period.
- All repertoire must be performed from memory.
- Each finalist will have 15 minutes of performance time; repertoire will be requested
by the adjudicators. Performances may be interrupted without penalty for the sake
of time.
- Finalists who do not win a prize are eligible for a masterclass with Dr. Joseph Kingma,
Keyboard Division Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Piano at Palm Beach Atlantic
University. Please indicate on the application if you would like to be considered
for the masterclass.
Prizes
- 1st Prize: $12,000 music scholarship to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University* and $1000
cash.
- 2nd Prize: $10,000 music scholarship to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University* and $750
cash.
- 3rd Prize: $8,000 music scholarship to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University* and $500
cash.
- Honorable Mention: At judge’s discretion, participation in the afternoon masterclass
and certificate.
- *Scholarship dependent upon acceptance to and enrollment at Palm Beach Atlantic University
when eligible.
