Why Minor in a Modern Language? 

As a student in the Department of Modern Languages you will be able to combine your interest in languages, cultures, linguistics and literature with other fields of study across the university.

Knowing a modern language will make you a stronger candidate for many prestigious scholarships such as: 
 
  • Fulbright and Fulbright Summer Institute: program at one of ten sites in the United Kingdom. 
  • David L. Boren Scholarship: Study abroad in underrepresented countries; emphasis on national security/national interests;
  • Critical Language Scholarships: Comprehensive funding for overseas summer program focused on critical languages; 
  • DAAD Scholarship - German Academic Exchange Service: Funds various awards for study/research in Germany; 
  • Freeman - Asia: Funds study in East or Southeast Asia for students with financial need;
  • Gilman International Scholarship: Up to $5000 for study abroad for Pell Grant recipients;
  • Killam Fellowships Program: Study in Canada for one or two semesters;
  • Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant: $1,000 to support study abroad in any country.

Spanish Minor

The Spanish Minor is designed for students who want to learn the fundamentals of Spanish abilities in speaking, reading, writing and comprehension. 

Prerequisite Courses for Spanish Minor - 6 Credit Hours*

* May be waived, in part or completely, based on prior course work or the results of a placement exam.


Required Courses for a Minor in Spanish - 12 Credit Hours


Elective Spanish Courses - 6 Credit Hours*

* 6 credit hours are to be taken after SPN 3323.

Please select 6 credit hours from the following list of approved Spanish electives.


Note:

Credit hours for courses waived do not have to be made up, but a minimum of 12 credit hours beyond the Intermediate Level must be completed at PBA.

* Required above FRN 1123 - Elementary French II
