The primary focus of the major in Music Composition in the School of Music and Fine Arts is the study and incorporation of compositional techniques found in art music of the western classical tradition, from earliest times through the present day.
As a Music Composition major, you will receive instruction in the writing of solo and ensemble music for a variety of vocal, instrumental and electronic media through private instruction and group seminars. You will also be encouraged to explore music outside of the western classical tradition.
