What can I do With This Degree?
As an english major, you will have the opportunity to submit and publish work in the annual student literary magazine, Living Waters Review.
Sigma Tau Delta is the international English Honor Society. Members of Sigma Tau Delta have an interest in the fields of literature and creative writing, and have the opportunity to work on service projects that affect our community. The national organization offers opportunities to present papers at an annual conference, as well as scholarships and invitations to submit creative and critical work to a national journal.
South Florida Chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)
Members of JASNA meet monthly to discuss topics of interest regarding the works and times of Jane Austen, famous author of Pride and Prejudice and other novels. Meetings typically include British tea and entertaining events, such as lessons in Scottish Country Dance. As a member of JASNA, you are encouraged to enter the annual essay contest with an opportunity for attendance at the JASNA Annual General Meeting.
PBA Book Club
This weekly event, organized through the School of Arts and Sciences, offers you the opportunity to discuss books with your favorite professors. Held in an informal setting, this event gives you a time and space to meet professors, get to know books you may want to read and ask questions or provide insights.
Student Literature Night
Sponsored by the English Department, Student Literature Night showcases your talents in writing. The evening's program gives you an opportunity to share your work with our appreciative college community. Competitive entry ensures that the program is top rate and enjoyable for all. Share your poetry, read your short stories or sing your original songs at Student Literature Night.
