Chanel Nassir

Chanel NassirChanel Nassir, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania, native, is in the first class of Fulbright U.S. Student Program award winners to Burma. Under the English Teaching Assistant Program she will begin serving in Burma in January 2021.

A Fulbright is a highly-selective, prestigious award for international study that aims to foster understanding between U.S. citizens and those of other countries. During their term, recipients live, work, learn and serve with people from their host country.

Nassir will be teaching at the university level. She credits her four years at Palm Beach Atlantic University as integral to her development as both a Fulbright recipient and as an individual with the ability to impact the world.

“I could not feel more confident as I prepare for the Fulbright,” she said, “and I genuinely attribute that to the university’s leadership and faculty. PBA has consistently called out and championed my God-given abilities.”

Nassir graduated in 2020 with an international business major. She served as the captain of PBA’s women’s lacrosse team as the sport transitioned into NCAA Division II competition. She also studied abroad at the University of Oxford, and through all these endeavors maintained a near-perfect GPA.

She is no stranger to international service, having interned with the Rafiki Africa Foundation and having taught at Light House Academy in Kosele, Kenya, where she initiated the community’s first-ever computer classes.
