More than 200 librarians from 30 states, five Canadian provinces and several other countries will come together at Palm Beach Atlantic University this week for the Association of Christian Librarians annual conference.

The theme of this year’s event is “Oceans of Opportunity.” Keynote speakers will be Sue Polanka, head of reference and instruction for the Dunbar Library at Wright State University and moderator for the popular ebook blog No Shelf Required®; and Dr. David Dockery, president of Union University.

Polanka will speak on Tuesday on the topic “Blue Ocean Strategies for the Promotion of E-Resources,” and Dr. Dockery will speak on Wednesday on “Opportunities for Christian Higher Education in the Academic Marketplace.”

Worship leader will be Robyn Reid, reference librarian at Texas Christian University and praise team leader at Ridglea Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

Three members of the PBA faculty will serve as devotional speakers during the week: Dr. Bernard Cueto, campus pastor and instructor of Biblical and theological studies; Dr. Kathy Maxwell, assistant professor of Biblical and theological studies; and Dr. Terriel Byrd, professor of urban Christian ministry and coordinator of PBA’s evening ministry program.

Among the highlights of this year’s conference is a new service project that seeks to send books to at least 10 Christian schools in Haiti, organizers said.
