Palm Beach Atlantic University President William M.B. Fleming Jr. has announced the appointment of Connie Cooper Shepherd to the newly created post of Executive Vice President for Strategy and Planning. Shepherd joins the University’s leadership team on Aug. 6, when she will take a seat on the President’s Cabinet.
In her role as advisor and confidant to the President, Shepherd will lead strategic planning and drive innovative initiatives to further elevate the university. With close knowledge of the President’s goals, interests and schedule, Shepherd will serve as the point of contact between the office of the President and the rest of the university. In addition, she will represent the President on select committees, at events and with faculty.
Shepherd, a nationally recognized consumer products sales and marketing executive, most recently served as President and CEO of Cooper Consulting (Seattle) and as Executive Board Director for Special Olympics Washington. In 2012, Palm Beach Atlantic University honored Shepherd as an American Free Enterprise Day companion medalist, recognizing her as a leader in her field.
“Connie's experience uniquely qualified her to lead the university's goal setting and strategic planning processes that will propel PBA forward into its next 50 years,” President Fleming said. PBA opened its doors in 1968 and is preparing to celebrate its 50th year as a leader in Christian higher education for South Florida.
In her 31-year career, Shepherd has worked in leadership roles with some of the world’s top consumer and retail companies, including Starbucks, Hershey, Kellogg's, and Procter & Gamble. Industry-wide, Shepherd has become known for her ability to commercialize world-wide brands, implement innovative go-to-market strategies, and build high-performance organizations. Her financial acumen has helped her drive consistent, sustainable and profitable growth across a variety of key performance indicators, including gross revenue/volume, net revenue, and profitability.
Shepherd earned a bachelor of science in communications/public relations from Florida State University.
In a related announcement, President Fleming has updated the title for John Kautz III to Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, and Director of Athletics Carolyn Stone becomes Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics.
