Biography

Dr. Chahine joined the faculty at Palm Beach Atlantic University as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2007. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2013 and Professor in 2019. He maintained a practice site at JFK Medical Center as Clinical Pharmacist from 2008 to 2015 and he has been practicing at Wellington Regional Medical Center as Clinical Pharmacy Specialist since 2015. His primary responsibilities include coordinating and teaching the integrated infectious diseases pharmacotherapy course, precepting and mentoring students and residents, and engaging in scholarship and service.
Dr. Chahine has authored more than 100 articles on infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, immunizations, geriatrics, pharmacy education, cultural sensitivity, and medical missions. His articles were published in journals such as American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Christianity & Pharmacy, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, Drug Topics, Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, Journal of Experimental and Clinical Medicine, Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Journal of Pharmacy Technology, Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Open Forum Infectious Diseases, Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacy, Pharmacy Education, Pharmacy Times, The Senior Care Pharmacist (formerly known as The Consultant Pharmacist), and US Pharmacist. He has also authored 7 book chapters on infectious diseases and immunizations in the Infectious Diseases Self-Assessment Program, Infectious Diseases: A Case Study Approach, Updates in Therapeutics: Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Preparatory Review Course, and Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program. In addition, he has presented 50 posters and 160 presentations at local, state, national, and international professional meetings.
Dr. Chahine is involved in several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), Florida Pharmacy Association (FPA), Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FSHP), and Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP). He held a variety of leadership positions including Chair of the ACCP Infectious Diseases Practice and Research Network, Chair of the ACCP credentials membership committee, Chair of the ASCP Educational Affairs Council, and Chair of the FSHP Educational Affairs Council. He also served as FSHP President and as Palm Beach Society of Health-System Pharmacists President. In addition, he co-led medical mission trips to Alaska, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Zambia.
Dr. Chahine is recognized by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties as Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist. He has completed certificate programs in: teaching and learning, research and scholarship, leadership and management, as well as precision medicine and applied pharmacogenomics through ACCP; immunizations, medication therapy management, and travel health through APhA; immunizations through Drug Store News; point-of-care testing through NACDS; optimal outcome teaching through Palm Beach Atlantic University; OSCEology through the University of Toronto; and scholarship of teaching and learning through the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Chahine is a fellow of ACCP, ASCP, and FSHP. He is the recipient of several awards in recognition of his teaching, practice, research, and service: PBA Excellence in Research & Publication Award, ASCP Armon Neel Senior Care Pharmacist Award, ACCP Education Award, Parata Systems/Pharmacy Times Next-Generation Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award, SIDP Gita Patel Best Practice Recognition Award, Palm Beach County Medical Society Hero in Medicine Award, FSHP Residency Preceptor of the Year Award, FSHP Pharmacist Forerunner Award, ACCP Infectious Diseases Practice and Research Network Clinical Practice Award, Preceptor Servant Leader Award, Preceptor of Distinction Award twice, and Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Chahine graduated from Saint-Joseph University with a Doctorat d’Exercice en Pharmacie degree and from the Lebanese American University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He completed a drug information graduate internship at Eli Lilly and a pharmacy residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, affiliated with Columbia University. In addition, he completed an Academic Leadership Fellows Program through AACP and a Mentored Research Investigator Training Program through ACCP.
