Biography
Dr. Batoh earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marine science and biology from The University of Miami. Following her undergraduate studies, she attended UCONN Avery Point, where she earned a doctorate in oceanography with a specialization in plankton ecology. Dr. Batoh’s graduate research focused on the ecology of harmful algal blooms. Her work explored the cues, mechanisms, and costs associated with grazer-induced paralytic shellfish toxin production of a marine dinoflagellate. Upon completion of graduate school, Dr. Batoh worked in environmental conservation for a state and local municipality while continuing to teach oceanography as an adjunct professor of marine sciences at UCONN. She brings to PBA a unique perspective on using current scientific research to guide environmental regulations and policy. In addition to her love of marine science, Dr. Batoh is an active member of her Lutheran church community and will encourage all students to make Christ the rock of their life and learning. She is the proud mom of daughter Clara, and likes to spend her free time training for distance running events.
