Before they were the acclaimed Christian band Tenth Avenue North, Mike Donehey, Jason Jamison and Jeff Owen were friends who met while attending Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Several years and multiple No. 1 songs later, Tenth Avenue North began its 35-city fall tour on Sept. 13, 2012 with sponsorship from Palm Beach Atlantic. Now we're back together, sponsoring the April leg of The Struggle Tour.
“Tenth Avenue North has its roots at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and we are pleased to support our loyal alumni through this partnership,” University President William M.B. Fleming Jr. said. “The PBA family is proud of Tenth Avenue North and proud to support them in their success.
"In many ways, we share the same audience," said Fleming. "Many of Tenth Avenue North’s fans are our potential students.”
As part of the tour sponsorship, a PBA representative will be going on the road with the band. We'll have an informational booth at the concerts and special lots of fun stuff related to PBA.
“The Struggle” is Tenth Avenue North’s biggest headlining tour to date, featuring guest artist Moriah Peters and the band Rend Collective Experiment.
Both Jamison, the band’s drummer, and Donehey, the lead vocalist, are 2003 graduates of PBA. Jamison majored in biblical studies, and Donehey majored in theatre arts with a minor in youth ministry. Owen, who plays electric guitar, attended PBA in 2002. The band’s other members are bass player Ruben Juarez and keyboardist Brendon Shirley.
Since its last release, Tenth Avenue North Live: Inside and In Between (March 2011), a live CD/DVD experience, Tenth Avenue North has continued to move through constant streams of feature spots and major tours, most recently wrapping label mate Third Day’s fall 2010/spring 2011 “Make Your Move” tour and the fall 2011 “Rock & Worship Roadshow.” In 2011 alone, the band performed for audiences in excess of 500,000. Its memorable song "You Are More" was the No. 1 Song of the Year on Billboard’s Christian Audience Chart.
In 2012, Tenth Avenue North’s "By Your Side" achieved digital Gold status, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, signifying 500,000 singles sold.
