Palm Beach Atlantic Trustees on Course to Name Interim

March 7, 2011

Robert Simpson, chairman of Palm Beach Atlantic University’s board of trustees, addressed faculty and staff Monday morning declaring that the state of the University is excellent.

Simpson referenced a 30 percent increase in campus visits by potential students this year and an increase in the number of applications compared to this month last year. He noted that the theatre production of The Drowsy Chaperone is in rehearsal at the new Fern Street Theatre. He cited growth in academic programs with a new major, forensic science, and new academic concentrations in the ministry major added recently. Site preparation is taking place on the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus. Softball Coach Kimmy Bloemers is a finalist for coach of the year by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, noting just a few recent accomplishments.

“Even this week while the faculty and students are on spring break, the campus is alive with activity and serving the community,” Simpson said. The Palm Beach Pops will be rehearsing in the music building Tuesday and, on Thursday, judging for the annual Pathfinder High School Scholarship Awards sponsored by The Palm Beach Post takes place in various buildings on campus.

Regarding news reports concerning former President Hardin, Simpson said, “Palm Beach Atlantic is not focused on the proceedings in Arkansas. Our attention is focused on providing a quality Christian higher education to our students and we continue to excel at doing exactly this."

Simpson added that trustees are concentrating on the selection of an interim president but did not speculate when an appointment would be made.
