Endowed Scholarship Honors Christian Sampson

June 19, 2013

Christian Sampson, an Aramark employee who daily shared Scripture with diners on campus, is being remembered with a scholarship fund established in his honor.

Sampson, who worked in the Fraser Dining Hall, passed away last fall. He was 28.

“While Christian’s life was cut short, his impact on our campus community was significant, and his legacy of providing a ‘word of the day’ scripture to everyone he met will be remembered by many for years to come,” said Vicki Pugh, vice president for development.

“Christian had hopes of becoming a pastor,” Pugh said. “As a way to allow him to support others who have a similar calling, PBA established the Christian Sampson Memorial Scholarship Fund. The endowed scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a student pursuing ministry as a profession.”

More than $12,000 has been raised for the Christian Sampson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Pugh noted that Aramark contributed a matching gift in the effort that garnered generous contributions from trustees, faculty and staff members, and students.

“We will continue to accept contributions for this fund and look forward to the day when we can award our first scholarship to a PBA student who is most deserving and who will continue Christian’s great zeal and love for the Lord,” she said.
