Quattlebaum Funeral and Cremation Services Joins SCI

July 18, 2013

Houston, Tx.-based Service Corporation International (SCI) is proud to announce the acquisition of Quattlebaum Funeral and Cremation Services located in West Palm Beach, Fla. Quattlebaum is now a part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral providers, allowing it to expand upon its long tradition of high quality funeral services and personal attention to the Palm Beach County community.

The Quattlebaum family chose to put the one-acre property in the hands of PBA instead of making it part of the transaction with SCI.

The high standard of service that is a hallmark of Quattlebaum Funeral and Cremation Services will be fully evident under the SCI umbrella and further enhanced with SCI’s extensive resources and multiple locations. The Quattlebaum family members who have run the company for years will remain in key management positions. They include siblings Greg Quattlebaum as a general manager; Gary Quattlebaum as a location manager; Gale Q. Schiffman as an office manager; and Mrs. Earl Quattlebaum (Phyllis) as an ambassador. The family is working closely with SCI to ensure a smooth transition for the families they serve, and SCI will fulfill all of Quattlebaum customers pre-arranged funeral contracts.

G. Earl Quattlebaum and partners W. Joe Holleman and Aubrey A. Burse founded the company now known as Quattlebaum Funeral and Cremation Services in 1955 and the company quickly became renowned for the quality of its services and its focus on community betterment. Today the company is viewed as one of the leading funeral service providers in Palm Beach County dedicated to the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, fairness and excellence.

“The Quattlebaum family has proudly served this community for generations,” said Greg Quattlebaum. “Now, as part of the Dignity Memorial network, our family and service professionals will be able to meet the needs of our client families better than ever, offering new benefits and multiple locations around Palm Beach County through this highly respected national network.”

The Quattlebaum family specifically chose to sell its downtown location to Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) instead of making the property part of the transaction with SCI. The approximately one-acre parcel sits in the middle of PBA’s 27-acre campus, and with that key piece the campus is expected to be able to advance its campus master plan.

“The Quattlebaum family has been a wonderful, caring neighbor to five decades of Palm Beach Atlantic students,” said University President William M. B. Fleming, Jr. "They have been concerned daily with our students’ welfare and safety.”

“The property, located in the heart of the Palm Beach Atlantic campus, is a strategic area of the campus master plan. It is one of the final puzzle pieces to fall into place for our beautiful urban campus,” President Fleming said.

President Fleming added that plans to develop the property have yet to be determined pending review by the Board of Trustees and the University’s administration.
