Pharmacy Financial Aid

 

The Office of Financial Aid is pleased to assist new and returning Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy students throughout the financial aid process. The Pharm.D. Degree at Palm Beach Atlantic University is considered a four-year professional level degree.  In terms of financial aid this means that students are generally not eligible for grant assistance through the federal government, but substantial loan assistance is available through the Federal Direct Loan Program and through alternative or Graduate Plus loans.

 

2013-2014 Tuition and Fees

Tuition: $16,500 per semester
Fees: $360 per semester
Health Insurance: TBD
Laptop fee: $2,015 (first year pharmacy students only)

Students can view their financial aid and student account online at anytime by visiting myPBA at http://my.pba.edu. After logging in select Check Account Balances on the main page. This will allow you to view your student account statement. Select View Financial Aid Information to view your financial aid awards and the status of required documents.

What am I eligible for?

First Year Pharmacy with less than 90 earned credit hours
First year pharmacy students with less than 90 earned credit hours are limited to the undergraduate Stafford loan limits of $7,500. Earned credit hours are determined from an official transcript.  Subsidized and / or unsubsidized loans will automatically be offered after completing the FAFSA. A Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Loan Entrance Counseling Session is required.

An additional credit based loan, the Parent PLUS loan, is also available for the parents of a dependent studentThe Parent PLUS loan may be applied for after May 1, 2013. Parents of dependent student can apply for a Parent PLUS loan at www.studentloans.gov.

The maximum that can be borrowed in Stafford and Parent PLUS loans combined is $61,170.
 
First Year Pharmacy with greater than 90 earned credit hours
First year pharmacy students with greater than 90 earned credit hours can borrow up to $33,000 in unsubsidized loans. The unsubsidized loan will automatically be offered after completing the FAFSA. A Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Loan Entrance Counseling Session is required.

An additional credit based loan, the Graduate PLUS loan, is also available. The maximum amount that the Graduate PLUS loan can be applied for is $28,170. The Graduate PLUS loan may be applied for after May 1, 2013. Second and Third Year Pharmacy
Second and third year pharmacy students can borrow up to $33,000 in unsubsidized loans. The unsubsidized loan will automatically be offered after completing the FAFSA.

An additional credit based loan, the Graduate PLUS loan, is also available. The maximum amount that the Graduate PLUS loan can be applied for is $28,170. Final Year Pharmacy
For the final year of pharmacy, students are enrolled for a full 12 months due to the cycle of rotations. Due to this additional time period student are eligible to borrow up to $37,167 in unsubsidized loans. The unsubsidized loan will automatically be offered after completing the FAFSA.

An additional credit based loan, the Graduate PLUS loan, is also available. The maximum amount that the Graduate PLUS loan can be applied for is $33,013. The final year billing cycle differs from the previous three years of pharmacy school. Students will be billed in May and again in November. Refunds will be processed at the end of the aforementioned months. Please note that if you subscribe to the PBA health insurance plan it will not be billed until August and will be deducted from your November refund (if applicable). 
 

 

Refund Information

If the total amount of financial aid exceeds the cost of tuition, the school will reimburse you in the form of a refund check. The refund check will be issued within 10 business days of the loan funds posted to your account. The refund check cannot be issued prior to the loan funds being disbursed to your account, which is dependent upon the date you begin enrollment. 

We will verify your enrollment in the pharmacy program.  If all of your documentation is received and correct we will begin processing your loans by the third week of classes. Additional information on the timing of your refund will be communicated to you via PBA email. Please plan to take care of your outside expenses until you receive a refund.

How do I know if my refund check is ready?
One week prior to your refund check being ready, your student account statement will indicate the Date and A/R Refund Check. You may pick up your check on the date, after 3pm, at Student Accounts for the remainder of the week. If you do not pick up the check during the week it is issued, Student Accounts will mail it to the address on file.
 
 
Health Insurance

Palm Beach Atlantic University requires all full-time pharmacy students to have health insurance, both to protect against unexpected high medical costs and provide access to quality care. Students will be automatically enrolled in the annual plan. Students with an approved health insurance plan may apply for a waiver after May 1, 2013 by visiting www.pbastudentinsurance.com.
