Palm Beach Atlantic University graduate Paul Fisher

Paul Fisher '17

Hometown: Pompano Beach, FL

Describe your current job role:

I am currently serving as Executive Vice President of Business Development at Fisher Auction Company, which has been my family’s business for more than 50 years. We serve the real estate industry by auctioning off multi-million dollar luxury estates and commercial properties. My position entails three main focuses: marketing/image design, where I am currently rebranding our company to stay relevant in today’s endlessly changing industry; preserving client relations, where I am studying market trends to both gain new and maintain current client business relationships; and auction due diligence, where I am producing new listing contracts, facilitating property tours, and setting up auctions.

What professional experience(s) did you have prior to your current job role?

For my entire life, I have been surrounded by the real estate industry as I grew up working for Fisher Auction Company. Additionally, I stepped out of the “family business circle” in 2016 to experience a traditional real-estate firm through a summer internship at Donohue Real Estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

What do you know now that you wish you had known about being a working professional?

When working in real estate, your days never end at 5 pm -- you’re always on call. However, that’s the excitement of being in one of the most lucrative industries in the world.

"...the PBA mandatory internship program was the most influential aspect of PBA, in my opinion..."

How did PBA prepare you for the world of work?

Being a student leader at PBA (Speaker of the House and Policies Coordinator for SGA and Campus Involvement Coordinator for College Republicans) showed me important leadership skills and how to work together with a team in a task-oriented environment. However, the PBA mandatory internship program was the most influential aspect of PBA, in my opinion, as it helps you apply what you learn in the classroom to the real world and experience potential jobs available out of college.

What advice would you give to current PBA students and/or young alumni who are about to start their first professional full-time job?

Be patient, listen and take full advantage of your work environment to learn all that you can.

Have you been mentored by anyone in your professional field since entering the workforce?

First, my father (Lamar Fisher, President and CEO of Fisher Auction Company) demonstrated how to be a professional in the auction and real estate industry and how to always possess integrity in an industry that can sometimes be deceiving. He continues to teach me that my name is all I have and never to compromise my character or Christian morals for a deal. Second, Jessica Bruce (formerly Jessica Moody) is the Vice President of Operations at Donohue Real Estate, and she helped me learn more of the administration side of a real-estate company during my summer internship, which has made me feel more comfortable in my responsibility of rebranding Fisher Auction Company.
