Two New Online Degree Programs in Development

May 1, 2013

Palm Beach Atlantic University is developing online versions of two of its popular degree programs for adult students -- a Master of Science in Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Provost Dr. Joseph A. Kloba said that an online course format provides working, adult students greater access to further their education while continuing their employment and family obligations. Dr. Kloba noted that the leadership degree would be the first online graduate program to be offered at PBA. Both degree programs are currently offered in the traditional classroom format at Palm Beach Atlantic’s campuses in West Palm Beach and Orlando.

“Online instruction is another way that students throughout the world can access our programs,” said Dr. Jim Laub, dean of the MacArthur School of Leadership.

The proposed master’s degree in Leadership provides students the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to be a truly effective leader in an organization, non-profit, government or ministry setting. Critical thinking, strategic planning, anticipating change and effective writing and speaking are key components of the coursework.

Students pursuing the proposed bachelor’s degree in Psychology will be exposed to a wide variety of specialties within the field including counseling, developmental psychology and industrial and organizational psychology. The courses integrate secular and biblical aspects of psychology, and are geared to assist the student in pursuit of professional and graduate level education.

Palm Beach Atlantic’s online courses have been recognized for their quality by two national organizations with expertise in the field. U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 Best Online Education Programs ranked Palm Beach Atlantic 31st nationally, having evaluated 237 degree-granting programs offering courses that are 100 percent online. For the second consecutive year, Palm Beach Atlantic University was named the winner of the Online Course of the Year Award with a perfect score at the Association of Christian Distance Education (ACCESS) Conference held in March.

Presently, Palm Beach Atlantic offers two online, undergraduate degree programs in organizational management and ministry.
