The Quantum Foundation, a recognized leader in progressive health care partnerships, has awarded Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy a $20,000 grant to administer the MedData Services Prescription Assistance Program.
MedData is a web-based program that provides health care entities and their qualified (low income and uninsured) patients the information needed to apply for free medications. The University’s School of Pharmacy will administer the MedData program which has 10 licenses that enables free clinics and other nonprofit health care organizations to assist clients in obtaining needed medications.
Pharmacy faculty provide Integrated Pharmacotherapy Services (IPS™), at three safety net clinics for the uninsured in Palm Beach County: Community Health Center (West Palm Beach), Caridad Community Health Center (Boynton Beach) and CARELINK clinic (Jupiter). IPS™, developed and implemented by the Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy at Palm Beach Atlantic, provides intensive ambulatory care and Medication Therapy Management services for indigent patients with complex, chronic conditions. Services include: evidenced-based protocols in a variety of disease states (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, tobacco abuse, etc), language specific patient education, medication assistance programs, medication formulary management, and outcomes research evaluating the impact of pharmacy services.
“Having this program available and administered in the indigent care clinics has saved over $500,000 in medication costs,” said Dr. Seena Haines, associate professor of pharmacy practice and director of integrated pharmacy services.
Paul Gionfriddo, Quantum’s president, noted that “the PBA Gregory School has made an extraordinary service commitment to Palm Beach County’s uninsured residents, and we are pleased that this commitment will be continued through this award. The patients who benefit are among those most in need,” he added.
“The University is grateful for the Quantum Foundation’s support for this program that is a model for other communities,” said Palm Beach Atlantic University President Dr. David W. Clark. “By providing the education and medications needed by poor and uninsured people who have chronic health problems, we ultimately can improve the quality of their lives while saving government and other agencies precious healthcare dollars.”
The Quantum Foundation is Palm Beach County’s leading health foundation granting funds to charitable and governmental entities within the county. The foundation strives to improve health care through access to and changes within the health delivery system as well as education reform initiatives. The Foundation, in its ninth year of grant making, has awarded funds to initiate 637 grants totaling over $75 million.
