Chi Ly is head coach/associate athletic director for academic support.
The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s and women’s tennis teams, led by Chi Ly, head coach and associate athletic director for academic support, received academic honors this month from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The men’s team has been named an ITA All-Academic Team for the first time. PBA was one of the 13 schools selected for NCAA Division II Men from around the country. And, men’s player Krasimir Atanasov, a Sofia, Bulgaria native, was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for his individual work in the classroom. For the past three seasons, he has been a Sailfish No. 1 singles player.
The Sailfish women’s team was named to the 2011 ITA All-Academic Team listing for NCAA Division II Women, one of 36 schools. Eight individual players were also named ITA All-Scholar Athletes: Amber Braaten, Krishna Domenech, Maria Jimenez, Jordan Ittersagen, Katie Livesay, Natalia Trotter, Vuokko Vahatalo, and Jessica Wharton. Braaten, Trotter, and Ittersagen are being honored for a second year in a row.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to schools participating in an ITA program, whose team has a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above for the current academic year. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner; have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The governing body of college tennis, ITA is comprised of almost 1,700 men's and women's coaches, representing more than 1,200 institutions across the country from all three NCAA Divisions, as well as the NAIA and Junior and Community Colleges. The association oversees activities involving over 15,000 varsity college student-athletes.
