Nine students were honored Tuesday as the outstanding graduates of their schools and 49 others received departmental awards and scholarships as part of Palm Beach Atlantic University's Honors Day ceremony. The outstanding graduates each receive special recognition during spring commencement on May 5.

Shea Gouldd, a junior at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, was named the first-place winner of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Rinker School of Business 2012 Entrepreneurship High School Challenge on Wednesday. Gouldd's business plan was for her Delray Beach-based bakery and catering business, Shea's Bakery.

"Lead by example," Palm Beach Atlantic University's overall theme for this academic year, was also the challenge that commencement speaker Dr. Ken Mahanes issued to the fall 2011 graduating class on Saturday.

On Saturday, student Joshua Keck will be recognized as the Outstanding Graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University's Orlando campus during the fall commencement ceremony. But come January, he'll be right back in class picking up where he left off. Keck is receiving his bachelor's degree in organizational management, and he already has begun working toward his master's degree in leadership from PBA. He completed his undergraduate coursework in mid-August.

Dr. Kenneth Mahanes, special advisor to the president of Palm Beach Atlantic University, will be the featured speaker at Palm Beach Atlantic's fall commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The event is open to graduates and guests who hold tickets.
