Brad and Debbie Mason of Sarasota joined the Palm Beach Atlantic University Parents Council soon after their eldest child, Rachel, came to PBA in 2007. With their third and youngest child, Caleb, now at PBA, they are the new Parents Council co-chairs.

Nearly 600 middle- and high-school students and youth group leaders from across Florida and as far away as Minnesota partcipated in Student Life, a Christian summer camp, at Palm Beach Atlantic University this week.

Dr. Michael O'Connor, associate professor of musicology at Palm Beach Atlantic University, recently spent a week coordinating and performing on a recording of the late 19th-century wind band music of Thomas Coates with Newberry's Victorian Cornet Band.

Graduate and undergraduate students in Palm Beach Atlantic University's Rinker School of Business spent nine days in Prague this summer during the school's annual global business trip. This is the ninth international trip the school has taken overall and its second to the Czech Republic. The first PBA visit to Prague was in 2007.

Students from Palm Beach Atlantic University's Gregory School of Pharmacy brought home several awards during the recent Florida Pharmacy Association 124th Annual Meeting and Conference in Fort Lauderdale.

The Palm Beach Atlantic University Preparatory Department will host an open house at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, in Vera Lea Rinker Hall, 326 Acacia Road, West Palm Beach. The Preparatory Department offers premier music, dance and vocal lessons for children ages 5-18 (dance classes are held for children starting at age 3).

Palm Beach Atlantic University is a partner with Complete Florida, an online program specifically for adults who have earned some college credit but stopped out before earning a degree. In Florida, approximately 2.2 million adults have earned some college credit. By 2018, approximately 59 percent of the jobs in Florida will require postsecondary credentials beyond a high school diploma. With this in mind, the State University System of Florida, the Florida College System and the Florida Legislature have made it a priority to increase the percentage of Floridians with a postsecondary credential. Complete Florida addresses this critical gap in our postsecondary landscape, with priority given to veterans and active duty military.

Palm Beach Atlantic University President William M. B. Fleming, Jr. announced today that the University has acquired Coastal Towers Apartments, a nine-story apartment building adjacent to the campus to provide premium residential housing for students. The purchase for $6.4 million was handled by Peter Reed of Commercial Florida. Coastal Towers Apartments at 1001 South Flagler Drive consists of 28 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units. Palm Beach Atlantic presently houses more than 1,000 residential students in various buildings on its downtown campus.

A group of 89 high school students in the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge sold coffee drinks, fast food items, tie-dyed T-shirts, concessions and other goods and services for their group business projects this week. The FELC program features a company competition in which students form start-ups and, hopefully, turn a profit. The transactions involve real money, which companies can borrow from the FELC bank. This is the second year in which the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge has been held at PBA.
