Palm Beach Atlantic University fall graduate Corina Sanchez, who received a degree in English and secondary education on Dec. 13, is one of three Gates Millennium Scholars to attend PBA. Established in 1999 with the goal of developing Leaders for America’s Future™, the Gates Millennium Scholars Program is funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Scott Whitaker of Falls Church, Virginia, has been appointed to the Palm Beach Atlantic University Board of Trustees, effective Jan. 1. Whitaker is the chief operating officer and president of the BIO International Convention with the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO).

Whitaker Joins Palm Beach Atlantic Board of Trustees

The Rev. Gerald Kisner, pastor of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, challenged the nearly 200 Palm Beach Atlantic University graduates taking part in the fall commencement ceremony at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Saturday to "look for ways that God can use you to bring about justice, peace, liberation and equality for all of God's children."

Pastor: Shun Indifference, Bring About Change with Love

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has named Palm Beach Atlantic University to the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Palm Beach Atlantic was among 766 higher education institutions named to the Community Service Honor Roll, which recognizes institutions that demonstrate relevant and meaningful service and achieve measurable impacts in the community. Palm Beach Atlantic University students have donated more than 2.8 million community service hours since the University’s founding in 1968 through a program called Workship, a University tradition of responding to human needs with Christ-like action. This is the eighth consecutive year in which Palm Beach Atlantic has been recognized with this honor.

The staff of Palm Beach Atlantic University's Warren Library recently collected 92 children's books, which will be delivered to first-graders in the Bahamas by Paxton Lowe, a library student worker from the Bahamas.

Palm Beach Atlantic University seniors Zorina McCoon and Chekiya Tatum are the first PBA education students to complete an international teaching fellowship in the Cayman Islands. Two other PBA students have completed international teaching fellowships in the Dominican Republic.

OneHope Ministries Lunches, Learns

Dr. Jim Laub, dean of the MacArthur School of Leadership, spoke at a luncheon at OneHope Ministries in Pompano Beach, Florida last month. OneHope is a Christian non-profit providing international outreach. Forty-five staff members took part in the staff training activity focused on self-leadership. The program, aptly titled Business Bites, offers a variety of informative seminars lead by Palm Beach Atlantic faculty for small businesses. Outstanding Fall Graduates Announced During Honors Chapel

Kisner to Speak at Fall Commencement

The Rev. Gerald D. Kisner, pastor of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, will be the featured speaker at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Fall Commencement at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The event is open to graduates and guests who hold tickets. More than 200 candidates for bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the West Palm Beach, Orlando and Wellington campuses will participate in the ceremony. Kisner came to the church in 1995 after a distinguished career in education, law and public administration. A Cleveland, Ohio native, he earned a master’s degree in public administration from Case Western Reserve University, a law degree from Harvard University and a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University.

If you are noticing a positive difference along Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach, it’s due to the service work of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Alumni Association. During Homecoming last month, 10 volunteers made time to clean a section of Southern Boulevard near Parker Avenue, which is just south of the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus.
