Staples Foundation Supports Summer Camp, Institute

Palm Beach Atlantic University, in partnership with Staples Foundation, the charitable arm of Staples, Inc., will present Summer Camp and Institute at PBA, a science summer camp for rising first- through 12th-graders, at the University’s main campus. For incoming first- through eighth-graders, camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the week of June 9-13. For incoming ninth- through 12th-graders, camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the week of JunPalm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) is a private, Christ-centered college in West Palm Beach, Fla., USA.e 16-20.

The Center for Integrative Science Learning at Palm Beach Atlantic is hosting this year’s Summer Camp and Institute, which will consist of a Science Exploration Camp for elementary and middle school students and Science Camp for students in high school. Participants in the Summer Camp and Institute will take part in daily laboratory experiments led by PBA faculty.

Each day of the camp will center on a specific theme, which will have applications to various age appropriate scientific fields including laboratory experiments in physics, chemistry, biology, marine biology, nursing and pharmacy. Fun recreational activities will be included each day.

“We want to show children that there is more to science than what they might have experienced up to now, and that being a true scientist begins with opening your mind to all sorts of inquiries. The themes we will cover will show them just that,” said Dr. Mireille Aleman, assistant professor of chemistry and director of Summer Camp and Institute at PBA.

Recreation time in PBA’s Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation will be part of the daily activities. For incoming first- through eighth-graders, extended care will be available from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at an additional cost of $15 per child, per day. The cost per child is $175, which will include snacks and a t-shirt. For incoming ninth- through 12th-graders, the cost per child is $250, which will include snacks and a T-shirt.
