Dr. Murray to Direct Doctor of Nursing Practice Program

Palm Beach Atlantic University has named Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Donna Murray as the director of its new Doctor of Nursing Practice program. Dr. Murray received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Florida Atlantic University. Her capstone academic project focused on increasing community awareness of the practice focused DNP to meet the growing demands to healthcare in the 21st century.

“Dr. Murray brings a zeal for graduate nursing studies along with an exceptional clinical background to her role as director of the new DNP program,” Dr. Joanne Masella, dean of the School of Nursing, said.

After completing her four-year degree in nursing at Murray State in 1989, Dr. Murray worked in various clinical settings as a registered nurse including leadership/management roles before returning to school to receive her master’s degree in nursing. She chose to specialize as a nurse practitioner and is board-certified in family practice by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Her experience includes diagnosing and treating patient populations of all ages, collaborating care with physicians and other health professionals within a family medicine residency program and precepting student nurse practitioners. Other experience includes medical stabilization for subspecialty population in substance/detox/mental health setting.

“I consider teaching students at Palm Beach Atlantic University a high privilege,” Dr. Murray said. “To impact the kingdom of God through an instructional environment that believes in the foundation of sound biblical principles is the fulfillment of my career.”

Dr. Murray and her husband, Marc, have been married since 1989 and have two children. They are actively involved as members of Trinity Church International in Lake Worth.

Beginning in January 2015, the DNP program consists of 74 graduate credits completed in nine semesters or essentially three years of study. The degree program is aimed at professionals currently working in the field with courses being offered evenings and online.
