The Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches has named Palm Beach Atlantic University Founding Chairman Dr. Donald Warren as the recipient of its 2013 Community Leader Award.
Dr. Warren will be honored at the Chamber’s Business Awards Breakfast on Monday, May 20, at 7:45 a.m. at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. For ticket information, visit www.palmbeaches.org.
In the mid 1960's, Dr. Warren, a prominent cardiologist, was asked to help establish a Christian college in West Palm Beach to counterbalance America’s shifting moral climate. Dr. Warren served as chairman of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Board of Trustees from 1968 to his retirement on December 31, 2006, after which he became a life trustee.
PBA's Warren Library is named after Dr. Warren and his wife, Bebe. In 2009, Dr. Warren published a book about PBA titled “Miracles and Wonders: A Chronicle of Palm Beach Atlantic University.”
He is also the founding president of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. Dr. Warren served on the executive committee and board of governors for both St. Mary's and Good Samaritan Medical Centers, as well as on the board of governors for the former Intracoastal Health Systems.
Retiring from a 40-year career in cardiology in 1996, Dr. Warren has continued his community volunteerism. In 1999, Dr. Warren was named one of The Palm Beach Post's “100 people who changed the way we live” in its millennium issue, “Our Century.” He also has been the recipient of numerous community awards.
In 2011, the town of Palm Beach’s Centennial Commission recognized the Warrens as Centennial Ambassadors, a title awarded to 42 residents with a long-standing connection to the island.
