The award honors outstanding accomplishments in online higher education using the Pearson LearningStudio platform. As part of efforts to encourage and support innovations that drive student success, Pearson will donate $1,000 to the scholarship fund of the winner’s choice.

Bassett, who also serves as an online mathematics instructor, was chosen for her efforts to increase access to online learning at PBA, where offerings have grown from just 10 courses in 2002 to 60 today. The University’s online bachelor’s degree program is ranked eighth in the nation for quality of student engagement and assessment, according to U.S. News & World Report’s first ranking of online programs.

Bassett has chosen to dedicate her Pearson award to the Online Ministry Scholarship at PBA.

Starting this fall, the School of Ministry will offer an online bachelor’s degree in ministry. The program is designed for students whose life situations do not allow them to attend classes on site, such as those already serving in ministry in remote areas with limited access to theological training.

The first completed course in the online ministry program, Exploring the New Testament, won the Course of the Year Award at the Association of Christian Distance Education’s ACCESS Conference with a perfect score of 20/20.

“I felt that the scholarship should be used for a program that reflects the excellence in online distance education we are attempting to provide at PBA,” Bassett said.

Additionally, she chose the School of Ministry's program for the scholarship because all of the school's full-time faculty are involved with the program at some level, she said.
