A highlight of the evening is the free dinner being served compliments of the co-founder of Outback Steakhouse — who also has created the nonprofit organization Kettle Comfort. Tim Gannon, of Water Mill, New York and Palm Beach, has created Kettle Comfort: Cooking for America, a nonprofit organization committed to using kettle equipment and technology to feed 20-30,000 people per day. His intention: to feed America.

This collaboration is part of an ongoing partnership with Palm Beach Atlantic designed to enhance the academic achievement of students at the middle school. Conniston is a neighbor of PBA’s Rinker Athletic Campus, and both the middle school and the University are participants in the newly formed public-private partnership known as the Parker Avenue Consortium. Award-winning soccer and basketball players from PBA also are expected to be on hand Thursday as an added incentive for Conniston athletes.

The event also includes recognition of Conniston students who made learning gains during last year’s FCAT; fun academic games developed by grade-level teams of teachers; performances by the school chorus, band and break dancers; and more.

Principal Oscar Otero said participation by business and community partners reinforces the idea that educating students is everyone’s job. “The success of this event is based on staff, students, parents, and community partners working together — and student academic success requires the same collaborative effort.”
